Scott Pilgrim vs The Art

In celebration of Scott Pilgrim vs The World opening in UK cinemas today, I have decided to feature the creator of the Scott Pilgrim comic books, Bryan Lee O'Malley. If you hadn't read the comic books or seen the film then I highly reccommend that you do!

Bryan is Canadian, but currently lives in the US. He writes and draws comics, and has created the 6-volume series Scott Pilgrim and Lost at Sea, which is also a webcomic. Bryan has also created, and co-created, many web-comics, Bear Creek Apartments, Monica Beetle, Babyfood, Smiling is something that other people do, World End Solution 2003 (unfinished), “Style” strips: 1 | 2 | 3, “Lost At Sea” strips: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | Bonus, Locked In The Trunk Of A Car (unfinished) and Glorious You. He also occasionally makes music under the name Kupek.

Adella

Adella is a 28 year old professional costume designer from California. Cosplay inspired Adella to use her natural talent for drawing anatomy and costumes, and so she attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, and upon graduating went on to becomge a professional costume designer. Adella regularly cosplays herself and also designs and creates cosplays for others.

The Zelda Project: Forest Song
"A soft breeze crept through the ancient trees, stirring them ever so slightly. Mingling with the rustle of forest leaves was a faint yet familiar melody, a song that had been played for as long as the spirits could remember.

The Zelda Project is a Los Angeles, CA based group of friends who seek to bring to life the characters, settings, and overall feel of Ocarina of Time through photography and film. Our ultimate goal is to create the characters as they would appear in reality to the best of our abilities, placing them in beautiful sceneries true to their Hyrulean counterparts, and creating elaborate photosets, as well as a film short (coming once the cosplay segment of the project is completed!).

Link Model: Anthony Beaston "Lune"

Makeup/Special FX: Joellen Elam *Lillyxandra
Prosthetics/Special FX: Dasha Bolotina
Visual Effects: Julia Starr `night-fate
Assistant Photographer/Lighting: Aimee AKA =SeptSky
Assistant Camera: Evan James
Location: California Coastal Redwoods

The boots, gloves, and belts are all real leather, which we will be distressing further in the future. The gloves are still in semi pristine order right now, because Link has just emerged from the Temple of Time in his new clothes! The sword and shield are made with a number of different materials including high density foam, fiberglass, and resin. We included with the shield some distressing, since he is able to use it as a kid, but we will embellish it further as time goes on! The tunic is made with rayon spandex jersey knit, and the underclothes are a combination of 100% linen and spandex ITY. I will be posting a more in depth "how it was made" on the website once all of the photos have been posted!

This cosplay photo was a huge combined group effort that was a labor of love by friends and fans of the Legend of Zelda series. Combining all aspects of art from photography to visual effects, we wanted to bring the Legend of Zelda to life as best we could in a final presentation. So far this has been incredibly rewarding, and we hope that those of you who view our work are brought a little bit more into the world of Hyrule through our art.

A special thanks to everyone who has helped us get this far! Without all of your support and kindness we wouldn't have been able to make this happen. We only hope that with what we produce, a smile is put on your face!"

Cosplay: Aeris
"Aeris in the Forest of the Ancients. An attempt at mimicking that part of the game. There's a couple other poses from this I'll put on my site.

We took these somewhere in Chicago a while back. It was a fun shoot and it was so nice to be around trees.

Costume: Made by me
Hair: Styled by me
Makeup: By me
Photography: ~kjphoto of Cosplay.com

This costume is a favorite of my watchers, so I thought I'd throw them a bone. ^_^ It would be cool if I knew how to Photoshop it to look all misty and dreamy. o.o;;; You photomanipper people impress me!"

Princess Aurora Costume
"This is the costume of Princess Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) that I made for my 17 year old sister Leah. Leah looks alot like me so people mistake her for me. This is not me in the photo, this is Leah my sister.

I made Leah's costume for her to go alongside my Belle costume.
I also apologize for the poor quality of the photo, it was the best we could do at the time.

This dress actually has 16 gores in it, and underneath she is wearing a corset that is squeezing her waist down to 23 inches. We decided that she needed an unnaturally small waist because Aurora had one in the movie. It needed to be victorian-small... so I kicked out a corset for her in a few hours."

To see more of Adella's gorgeous costumes and fashion illustrations check out her deviantART and website.

wredwrat

wredwrat, or Carolyn Gan, is a female artist from Sydney, Australia. She has two years experience in design and production for animated children's TV series, specifically set design, colour work and production backgrounds. In 2004 Carolyn graduated with a BA in Multimedia Design from Curtin University of Technology.

However her digital art skills are self-taught. She says that she enjoyed exploring different styles, and finds that digital art skills come naturally to her. Carolyn mostly uses a Wacom Intuos4 tablet, Paint Tool SAI, Photoshop CS3 and Corel Painter IX.

Carolyn ejoys digital painting, reading comics, playing games and collecting books in her spare time. She is also avaliable for freelance work as well as long term employment, so please check out her gallery and contact her if you're interested.

My personal favourite piece by Carolyn Gan is her fanart digital painting of Professor Layton and Luke from the Nintendo DS game series, Professor Layton.
Professor Layton and Luke

El Conquistador
"Hrm, the New World seems a little small..."

Gama's Forest
"Gama is a god of Longevity, and is one of the Seven Gods of Good Fortune in the Shinto religion. He's usually depicted as an old man with a staff and a fan with a deer hanging about him nibbling at his heels.. but I tried to run with the idea of a forest Faun with Eastern influences instead.
In the end he still turned out to be a regular ol' faun cuz I didn't put enough blings on him. And no Gama isn't wearing any pants.
Done over 2 days and 2 nights, took something like 25 hours total in Painter IX and Photoshop 6."

Carolyn can be found at her deviantART and her personal website.

jollyjack

jollyjack is one of my favourite artists on deviantART. His artistic style is eye-catching and memorable. His characters are gorgeous, both in their physical features and their attitudes, and his wonderful British wit comes through in his comics and single panel pieces.

stefa-zozokovich

Sorry for being a little late, unforseen circumstance meant I couldn't post. I also went to a fashion show today which was lovely, which is why this is a late post. I was helping a friend who works in Liz Cox, Bath, whose bags were featured in the show. It was a really great evening, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and we got lovely goodie bags too! Seeing all the photographers there reminded me that I havn't featured a photographer in a while, and so onto the art!

A small warning for those who may be viewing this in less private settings, the last photograph featured, though not mature, does have visible nipples.

Valeria Lazareva is a wonderful female photographer from Ukraine. Her photography ranges across interiors, travel,  portrait, still life, editorial and much more. Valeria's photography is stunning, eyecatching and elegant, and the models are always interesting to behold.

Creatures from El

Ellen is from Ontario, Canada. She has been sculpting from a young age and prefers to take inspiration from natural phenomena rather than trends within the art world. Ellen sees sculpting as being about life and ideas, a 'biological narrative, a cultural statement' and though it takes many hours to create a piece, it is worth it.

Ellen has a degree in Biological Anthropology and Art Critique from McMaster University. She had already started Creature from El in her teenage years and has been producing and selling sculptures on the side while studying. Now that she has graduated, Creatures from El is in full swing and she is taking commissions starting at $100 CND for a sculpture measuring 8-9 inches.

jaecn

jaecn is a male artist from China who specialises in digital, anthro art.

Anthro is when an animal has more human characteristics. Usually anthropomorphic characters will look like an animal/human cross and have the animals ears, tail, fur and so on, or alternatively a human with animals qualities, such as a girl with cats ears and a tail. However some artists prefer their characters to still look like an animal but have the ability to talk. They are predominantly based on mammals, though there are also artists who draw other anthro animals.
