frecklefaced29 and creaturesfromel

freckledface29 or May Ann, nicknamed Mall, is a 29 year old girl from La Union, The Philippines. Mall is a visual artist, freelance illustrator and painter. Mall says that her art is inspired by her dreams, nightmares, childhood memories, God, nature, music and other great artists that she admires. In her spare time she enjoys dreaming, listening to music and letting her imagination wander. Mall particularly loves creating art that features her own characters Babu and Abu the Cat.

Mall won the Grand Prize for the 2005 PBBY - Alcala Prize, an annual illustrators' contest sponsored by the Philippine Board on Books for Young People, the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the National Library.
She also received the Encouragement Prize in the 14th NOMA Concours for Picture Book Illustrations, a competition biennially organized by the Asia/Pacific Cultural Centre for UNESCO.

She illustrated her first children's book “The Yellow Paperclip with Bright Purple Spots” written by 2005 Grand Prize PBBY-Salanga winner Nikki Dy-Liacco and published by Adarna House, the country’s first and largest publisher of Filipino children’s books. May Ann has also been commissioned for a music album, paintings, murals, advertisements and others. Her art has also been featured in Drawn!, startdrawing.org, Juxtapoz, Artist a Day, NOTCOT.org and others. Mall's project Live Your Dream, which is commissioned by BBDO Guerrero for the Philippines Department of Tourism, appeared in Forbes Magazine, Fortune Magazine, CNBC, CNN and others.

Most people do not know that Mall was born with a hearing deficiency. However through her hard work and lots of practice she can hear, talk, sing and communicate like an ordinary person.

Creatures from El

Ellen is from Ontario, Canada. She has been sculpting from a young age and prefers to take inspiration from natural phenomena rather than trends within the art world. Ellen sees sculpting as being about life and ideas, a 'biological narrative, a cultural statement' and though it takes many hours to create a piece, it is worth it.

Ellen has a degree in Biological Anthropology and Art Critique from McMaster University. She had already started Creature from El in her teenage years and has been producing and selling sculptures on the side while studying. Now that she has graduated, Creatures from El is in full swing and she is taking commissions starting at $100 CND for a sculpture measuring 8-9 inches.
